About
Rising from the heart of Old Delhi, the Red Fort (Lal Qila) is a stunning statement of Mughal power and architectural brilliance. Commissioned in 1638 by Emperor Shah Jahan; yes, the same emperor who built the Taj Mahal; it served as the main residence of the Mughal emperors for nearly 200 years. Crafted from glowing red sandstone, the fort is both a defensive structure and a lavish palace complex, blending Persian, Timurid and Indian design. Inside, you’ll find marble halls, intricate inlay work, and tranquil gardens that reflect the empire’s opulence. Today, it stands not just as a historic site but as a symbol of Indian independence, where the Prime Minister hoists the national flag every 15th August.
