PUEBLA CATHEDRAL

AT THE HEART OF PUEBLA THE CATHEDRAL STANDS TALL AMONGST A CITY OF ARCHITECTURAL WONDERS

Puebla Cathedral

Puebla, Mexico

About

Dominating the Zócalo of Puebla, this 16th-century cathedral is a masterpiece of colonial Mexican Baroque. Designed by Claudio de Arciniega, who also worked on Mexico City's cathedral, the structure blends Renaissance symmetry with ornate altars, vast domes, and two towers that were once the tallest in the Americas. It was built to be both a religious centre and a civic symbol of Spanish power.
