Peru Lima to Mexico City 2022 Flight
I had booked the flight from Lima to Peru a few weeks before leaving, upon arrival at the gate the flight attendant told me that I would not be allowed to get on the plane if I did not have proof of onward travel!
This really confused me as I had not been asked for it when landing in Mexico from the UK!
I had to book a flight there and then using terrible airport WIFI 45 minutes before boarding began. That was achievable, what kept it on a knife edge was that the confirmation from the provider could take up to 24 hours to receive. The flight assistant stated he would only be able to let me on once I had the confirmation and it has shown up on their system!!!
Fortunately, it only took 30 minutes to come through, believe me that 30 minutes felt like forever! Make sure you check this requirment before flying from Peru to your next destination!
Nicaragua to Costa Rica Peñas Blancas Land Border 2022
Fairly simple crossing, proof of where we would be staying was asked for which was simple enough to show on our phones. One guy and his girlfriend traveling without technology did not have proof so they just stated the name of where they were staying which seemed to be enough for the border officer! The bus for Liberia is located opposite the exit gate and is very easy to find. Pay the driver before jumping on and away you go!
Costa Rica to Panama Paso Canoas Land Border 2022
We got caught out here. Taking a Tika bus from San Jose, my friend and I intended on landing in David before she went on to do some hiking and I headed up to Bocas Del Toro.
Leaving Selina, San Jose, we took an Uber to the Tika terminal (we both had booked our tickets in advance through the Tica website, the bus left at midnight hour, and we traveled through the night stopping for breakfast for thirty minutes before heading onto the border.
When we arrived we were alarmed to find that we needed PROOF OF ONWARD TRAVEL. Neither of us has this but luckily my mobile phone has a tiny bit of internet coverage. Under the threat of being left behind by the bus driver if we did not get sorted quickly, I managed to book onto the San Blas Adventure Tour and my friend managed to book something similar. On the plus side there was no real queue at the border meaning we were able to talk to the immigration officers the whole time we were desperately trying to book something in.
The immigration officers did not speak English, and my spanish was not great, but thankfully my friend did speak good spanish. After a lot of back and forth we both managed to prove we had booked onward travel. Writing it down now it does not sounds overly bad, but the internet was barely loading and under a deadline from the bus driver it felt stressful!
Make sure you don't fall into the same trap and have proof of onward travel! Check out the videos below for a bit of a debrief. If you have crossed this border recently let us know of the latest, especially regarding covid requirments.
Safe Travels 😀
